Love Haikus

I started writing haikus recently for my friend's website. The site promoted an awesome party called "Dance Like forever". This monthly event was created by some really amazing, creative people. The atmosphere there last night was friendly and fresh. They had this theme "revenge of the wolves" and there was a slide show on the wall with the attendees posing wildly in giant wolf claws. I met some interesting characters there and danced my ass off till the wee hours of the morning. It was spectacular. House music on the turntables drifted through us, blending afro-beat and live percussion. The crowd moved with the momentum of the blizzard falling outside while sounds and feelings of love lingered in the smoky air.
The good times continued as we spilled out of the elevator and onto the street with our crew of mischievous marauders. Children in adult's clothing threw snowballs at eachother and howled into the sky. It took us a while to get a cab and we stood in the cold air hoping that someone would take pity on our poor, intoxicated souls. When the yellow car pulled up with its "on duty" lights all a glow, it seemed to be a miracle. When we got in the driver immediately layed out his terms. He insisted we pay him 20 dollars to take us to our house, a ride that usually would only cost ten dollars. He was really rude about it and even insisted that we pay him up front. This pre-pay cab ride seemed absolutely ridiculous to me. I've never heard such nonsense and it was uncool of this guy treat us this way. I mean how dare he do this to me!? I, a mere struggling artist, a friendly face in the winter wind; a New Yorker who is way too too street savvy to put up with this type of shit right? So because I am stubborn and somewhat cheap, I tried to reason with him and when he wouldn't listen, we all got out. After another cold, wet 20 minutes we finally got a gypsy cab with a man who spoke no English and charged us 25 bucks. So we paid the five dollars extra and got home a little bit later, but at least we had our integrity damn it! The cabbies in NYC last night knew that they had the upper hand and so they set their own prices and we could either go with it or hop on the train. All in all it was an adventure to remember. Im really happy that we didn't let a measly blizzard deter us from going out...but after our little adventure getting home never felt better.
This morning the blizzard continues and I sit in my living room watching the snow fall through the cracks in the skylight. No wonder my house is so cold! I'm trying to enjoy the down time. This is the kind of day to stay in watching a movie under a blanket with tea and your cat, curled up in your arms purring away. Ill play some music and listen to the sound of the snow.
The haikus will fall
like flakes of February
spinning in to light
the warmest place was
in his arms without asking
how the windows change
